Target web site traffic using the power of Auto-Responders. Establishing a mailing list (where you send out regular correspondence i.e. newsletters, promotions, etc, is a great idea, but it can be a little hard to manage if you have to do it manually. Have to manually send out an email, particularly if you have a lot of people to send it to can be time consuming, not to mention the fact that it cannot easily be personalized for each recipient.
Why not harness the power of Auto-Responders to do the hard work for you. An Auto-Responder automates the sending of emails to your customers or prospects twenty-four hours a day. What’s more, the emails you send out can be personalized for each person, so that it looks like you have taken the time to email them each individually in person. This works in a similar way to mail merge in Microsoft Word, but is fully automatic without any need for you to do anything (after you have set it up).
You can quite literally have a customer subscribe to your mailing list (by leaving their name and email address on your web site) and then automatically receive emails you have predefined one over a period of time while you sleep!
You can then schedule additional emails over a period of time. For example, you could send an initial email to welcome them to your mailing list, then an interesting fact about your products 3 days after they joined, perhaps an extract from a book you have written on day 5, and a promotion on day 7, and so on. The only thing you need to do is set-up the series of emails once, then you just set it and forget it, and each person who signs up for your mailing list will get their individual, personalized emails one by one in whatever time range you have set-up.
The actual contents of the email are defined once by you, and then saved, and the auto-responder “merges” the recipient’s personal details into the relevant email, and sends it, all without any intervention by you anytime it receives a response, or on a scheduled basis.
There are a number of potential pitfalls that you should be aware of, and that you need to plan for. For example, you may have two mailing lists set-up one for your prospects, the other for customers.
The prospects mailing list would focus on turning the prospect into a customer, whereas the customer mailing list would have an entirely different focus.
Can you imagine how many problems you could have if you were mixing up mailing lists, or if a prospect was not removed from the prospect mailing list if they purchased a product?
For example in your prospect campaign (the sequence of emails you send to your prospect) you may in a particular message, offer the prospect to purchase the product at a discounted rate. If the prospect has already purchased the product previously, and was not automatically removed from the prospects list, it would make for one unhappy person when they realized they could have saved fifty percent of the purchase price.
Decent auto-responder services (web-sites who provide auto-responder facilities) have the basic functionality as well as advanced functionality to handle the problem listed above. The trick is to ensure it is an automatic process, and not something you have to do manually. Ideally the auto-responder service would remove the new customer automatically from the prospect mailing list and start them off on the customer mailing list. AWeber is one service that offers this functionality.
You should note that you are still able to manually send emails to your mailing lists. Auto-Responders just add the ability to automate particular sequences of messages, and to provide instant responses for information request at any time of the day or night.
